How to Access a Networked PC Through CMD
When you use the Command Prompt (CMD), you can exercise much more control over your functions. Many prefer using command-line instructions, as they can be quicker once you know what you are doing. If you want to access a networked computer through the Command Prompt then you need that computer's shared folders to be mapped as a network drive. Once the computer is mapped as a network drive, you can access it in the same way as any other drive on your computer.
Instructions
- Click "Start," then "Computer" on the networked computer that you want to access externally in CMD.
- Click "Map Network Drive." Specify a drive letter that you want to assign, then click "Browse." Locate the folder or drive that you want to map across the network. Click "OK." Click "Finish."
- Click "Start," type "cmd" and press "Enter" on the computer that you want to use to access the networked device.
- Type the letter assigned to your mapped drive followed by a colon. Press "Enter."
- Enter the password for that drive if prompted. You will now be able to view all the files and folders of that computer in the Command Prompt. Repeat the process with other computers and drives where necessary.
